BrightGate at Home: Learning Resources

Welcome to Our Home Learning Community

Explore five parent-guided lessons designed to build foundational literacy skills through explicit instruction, meaningful conversation, read-alouds, movement, and hands-on learning at home. This original BrightGate at Home lesson series was developed by BrightGate Academy. Except for credited third-party resources, the lesson text, instructional sequence, and BrightGate-branded materials are the intellectual property of BrightGate Academy and are provided for personal, noncommercial educational use only.

What Families Can Expect

BrightGate at Home offers clear, parent-guided Kindergarten literacy lessons grounded in the science of reading and informed by developmentally appropriate, play-based learning. Each lesson combines explicit phonological-awareness and phonics instruction with read-alouds, vocabulary, conversation, movement, and beginning writing. 

What Your Child Will Practice

  • Across five parent-guided lessons, your child will practice:

  • Recognizing and forming M/m, A/a, S/s, and T/t

  • Connecting each letter with its most common sound

  • Listening for beginning sounds in spoken words

  • Blending and reading simple words such as am, at, Sam, mat, and sat

  • Building vocabulary and comprehension through read-alouds

  • Developing positive routines for learning at home

Lesson 1: Exploring Our Home Learning Nest

Explore where meaningful learning can happen while introducing M/m and the sound /m/.

Lesson 2: At Home, We Learn Together

Meet the people on our learning team while introducing A/a and the short /ă/ sound.

Lesson 3: The Rhythm of Our Day

Build a positive home-learning routine while introducing S/s and the sound /s/.

Lesson 4: Taking Care of Our Learning Tools

Practice caring for learning materials while introducing T/t and the sound /t/.

Lesson 5: Look What We Learned!

Review M, A, S, and T through listening, blending, reading, writing, and reflection.

Book Detective: How a Book Works

Practice identifying parts of a book, following print from left to right, and using titles and illustrations to make predictions.

More Ways to Practice at Home

These stand-alone literacy activities give families additional ways to practice important early reading skills. Each activity includes parent guidance and alignment with Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards. Choose the activity that best matches your child’s current learning needs—there is no required order.

Playing With Sounds

Practice rhyming, clapping syllables, and identifying beginning, middle, and ending sounds in spoken words.

From Letters to Words

Practice recognizing letters, matching uppercase and lowercase forms, identifying vowels, blending sounds, and reading simple words.

Printable Practice for Grades K–2

Choose from these BrightGate learning activities to practice important literacy and mathematics skills at home. Each printable includes simple guidance for families, Florida B.E.S.T. Standards alignment, and an answer key. Activities may be completed in any order.
